Nancy Pelosi was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the SF Democratic Party on August 21st. CREDO ACTION wanted to use Live Streaming to make sure the Speaker of the House knew exactly how much support there is for Impeachment of the current POTUS in the Bay Area. CREDO ACTION hired Repertoire Productions to cover the event and Facebook Livestream the Protest. A little over one month after Live Streaming the Protest on September 24th, an Impeachment inquiry began in the House of Representatives. BAM! Effective Live Streaming. Next!…

How did we produce the Credo Live Streaming Protest?

When Repertoire Productions was asked to produce a live streaming project with Credo Action on August 16th, we had to take a novel approach. The project was a mobile livestream for a protest, there was no available power, no available internet, no guaranteed parking nearby for a production van, no way of knowing the number of participants, and many many other variables to consider, including Safety. CREDO contacted us on August 16th and we deployed on August 21st. Quick turnaround. They were looking for a professional broadcast with Chyrons, CREDO logo and the ability to crosspost. We delivered.

We deployed a Nimble Crew of 3x and Minimal set up

Producer/Encoding Engineer

ENG Operator

PA/Audio Capture

Gear:

PXW- 320 HD ENG Camera w/Media

Teradek Bolt Pro 2000

Cradlepoint AER1600 Series – Bonded Cellular

Live Streaming Video Encoder

Battery Backup (Re-Purposed for Power)

Field Audio Kit

Portable PA System

Handheld Wireless Microphone

1 Outside Broadcast Van (Sorry, we really can’t tell you how we rigged the Van, Trade Secret!)

Live Streaming Setup

Repertoire Productions crew packed the impeachment van with gear and met up with the Protest 30 minutes later. The Credo Action team saved us a spot across the street and we set up camp.

We really had no idea what we were getting into until we got to the location of the protest but regardless we knew we could make it work. We initially wanted to set up on the same side of the street as the protest but a parking permit wasn’t available. The Credo Action team saved us a spot across the street with orange cones and their own cars. Talk about grassroots!

Live Streaming reaches it’s Target Audience!

Our crew staged the live streaming van with gear, our Producer helped with client management and audio. We discovered quickly that Live Streaming a protest event can be unpredictable in nature and that it’s best to just follow the natural cadence of the crowd and speakers (and to have great communication through to the streaming team as unexpected surprises unfold). This flexible approach allowed our Camera Operator to adjust as the events developed.  Much of what was discussed in Pre-Production didn’t unfold, and plenty of unexpected twist and turns surprised us along the way.
